I like to reinvent my website from time to time – clear it out and give it not just a new look-and-feel but also a new function and purpose. This time, I thought I would try blogdown. As James Somers put it in an article over at The Atlantic, The Scientific Paper is Obsolete.
I’m interested in new ways of sharing science that improve transparency, accountability, and replicability. I’m also transitioning from academia to industry where there is less focus (if at all) on communicating scientific findings via peer-reviewed journals. Instead, sharing work as a scientist in industry often takes the form of a social media post, tweetstorm, or blog post. As someone who mostly works in the R programming language, blogdown is a natural choice because it makes it easy to share the code and markdown documents that I’m generating – all using the very same IDE!
